Warm Shadow

2022
Malvern, Melbourne Australia

I don’t want another day to break

To steal our night away

Eyes closed, holding on

Keep those eyes closed next to me

Designed to feel like a lobby rather than the transition to a typical corridor, the floor, wall and ledge were lined with stone slabs to mark the entry moment.
On the right, double doors open to an ‘adults only’ sitting room like a charcoal cacoon in an inky palette.

It’s one of our clients favourite spaces and is regularly used by Robbie, an AFL manager, to meet with his players.

The interior scheme is a variation of tonal greys.

The cabinetry is finished with a micro cement that contributes to the grey variations and includes variations of stone, specified in subtle shadowy Elba dolomite and details of fresh white and grey-veined Vigo Lena on the joinery. A refined interior heavy on tone and texture.

The furnishings were selected in offwhites and lighter tones to offset a darker grey base palette. The interior spaces then neutralise and offer a calming atmosphere.

A continuous curve motif found through the interior carries outside to a generous garden.

An outdoor fireplace, round stepping stones, a sinuous concrete bench and round-edged benchtop barbecue.

Warm Shadow.

I don’t want another day to break
To take our, steal our night away
Eyes closed, holding on
Keep those eyes closed next to me
Breaking in, Red sky, Leaking in
The perfect darkness
A blind man walking in the sun
One by one we watch the stars appear
Blossom above
Good things come
To those who learn
Wait for the sun to fall
The perfect darkness
The magic minute
Breaking in
Keep those eyes closed next to me
I don’t want another night to break
To steel our light away

Smells Like:
Red gum on the fire

Tastes Like:
Homemade Lasagne
